Join me in supporting real change. Let’s support good in the world and make a difference. Help us for Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, Inc.

On November 7, 2021, I will be running in the New York City Marathon in support of the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, www.cbtf.org
"The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) was founded in 1988 by a group of dedicated parents, physicians, and friends to improve the treatment, quality of life, and the long term outlook for children with brain and spinal cord tumors through research support, education, and advocacy to families and survivors. In addition to providing funds to research a cure, the organization is the nation’s leader in quality of life programs for families impacted by brain and spinal cord tumors. We support families from the day of diagnosis and throughout the brain tumor journey. Our mission is dedicated to improving the treatment, quality of life and the long-term outlook for children and families affected by a brain or spinal cord tumor."
The decision to run for this charity was an easy one. As many of you know, I am now a registered nurse and working with an incredible team of doctors, nurses and staff at the Weill Cornell Medicine Pediatric Brain and Spine Center. Each and every day I experience the trials and tribulations of our young patients and their families as they deal with serious brain and spine conditions. I have always been drawn to helping children. In high school I had the opportunity to travel to South Africa and tutor young elementary students. In college at the University of South Carolina, as an NCAA athlete, my teammates and I volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Columbia, South Carolina, giving comfort to young patients and their families dealing with long term hospital stays. For my entire life, I have always had a desire to work with and help children. For as long as I can remember, my dad always talked fondly of his brothers (my uncles), Robert and Jeffery. Jeffrey died at the age of 7 of leukemia in the late 60’s. Robert was diagnosed with a brain tumor (Astrocytoma) as a young child and was treated by world reknown neuro-ophthalmologist J. Lawton Smith. According to my dad, Robert was a sweet and caring brother and son and friend to all. Unfortunately, he died before I was born at the age of 31. My dad always commented that he wishes Robert and Jeffrey and his parents - my grandparents - had somewhere to turn for comfort and support during Robert and Jeffrey’s lives. The CBTF is wonderful organization and does incredible work to ease the burdens and to improve the quality of life of children and their families. Please help me reach my goal and support this wonderful organization. With love, Macie.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Children's Brain Tumor Foundation, Inc.

Thank you!
