For those of you that have followed Kyle on his cancer journey and have shown support through prayer, text, cards, phone calls and monetarily we will always be grateful.
For those of you who aren't familiar with my son Kyle's story here is a glimpse of his brave, heroic struggle with brain cancer.
Kyle was diagnosed at age 13 with a brain tumor which was removed on May 10, 2018. Following the surgery and 4 weeks of healing we then spent 7 weeks at Children's Specialized Hospital. There he went through physical therapy to regain his strength while undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.
Kyle couldn't walk, feed himself, dress himself or brush his teeth. He had to learn all of this and more.
The protocol was nine months of chemotherapy and radiation. He spent the next year doing intense physical therapy to get his body stronger and relearn everyday tasks.
August of 2020 days before starting Junior year of high school when a tumor was discovered in his lower spine.
With partial tumor removal, more radiation and chemotherapy Kyle continued another fight. A second back surgery was needed due to complications of the first. Both surgeries he was flat on his back for a week each time.
He developed a significant blood clot from his groin to his foot which required him to give himself a blood thinner shot every night.
He needed to get a feeding tube placed to ensure that he was getting proper nutrition along with having an Omaya Reservoir surgically implanted through his skull and brain to administer chemotherapy directly into his spinal fluid.
The chemotherapy does have side effects during treatment and after.
This is a small piece of what this devastating disease is capable of.
Please consider donating to the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation.
Kyle and I will be walking with many other families who have had a child or loved one stricken with brain cancer. This event is on Sunday September 18.
With his positive attitude and the grace of God he is now in remission
NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!!
Walk, stroll, roll, run...together we are stronger!
The Children's Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF) is the nationβs leader in quality of life programs for children and families affected by brain and spinal tumors. We are asking some of our key partners to rally their friends, family, and networks to support CBTF's important work. By supporting a Family & Friends Walk Team, you will have a direct impact on children diagnosed with brain and spinal tumors and their families.
All of the funds raised will support CBTF programming that has helped thousands of survivors and families. Your efforts can help us reach thousands more. CBTF is committed to improving the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for children and families affected by a brain or spinal cord tumor. We want to make sure that no family goes through this journey alone.
