On Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, our lives were forever changed when we found out our 3 year old daughter Sierra had a brain tumor. Three days later, the benign tumor (a pilocytic astrocytoma) was successfully removed and Sierra began her road to recovery. After 3 more brief stays in the hospital for swelling and leakage, we are grateful that she is now a happy, healthy, active 12 year old. She excels in school and loves to dance. She is on a competitive dance team and also plays softball, volleyball and basketball.
We are continuously grateful to our family, friends and community for their support during her surgery and recovery, as well as in the years following, raising money for brain tumor research and to provide gift cards to hospital patients during Christmastime.
I ran my first (and only) marathon 10 years ago, in October 2015 in Peoria, IL. Little did I know that 5 months later I would be spending so much time in Peoria during Sierra's surgery and recovery. I am excited to be running another marathon and honored to be on the endurance team for Children's Brain Tumor Foundation!! Brain tumors have affected the lives of too many people that I know personally, and countless others. Any donation will allow CBTF to continue helping families navigate life with a pediatric brain or spinal cord tumor. Knowing that I'm helping families that need support during this time gives me the motivation and confidence I need to run.
